The Data Protection Act states that information stored on people is restricted. All employers are legally required to;
….keep client information private and confidential |
….state that they intend to store personal information |
….declare why it is being stored |
….state how and where they have got the personal information from |
….state who will have access to the personal information. |
With personal information, the Data Protection Registrar must ensure that it is;
…fairly and lawfully obtained and processed |
…not kept longer than is necessary |
…only held for lawful purposes only |
…stored in a secure way that prevents unauthorised access, accidental loss or destruction |
…appropriate, relevant and must not be excessive. |
