It is important to understand environmental health and safety issues and make sensible decisions when storing items and equipment in the workplace, especially when dealing with chemicals.

When items are heavy, it might not be a good idea to store them too high in case they are dropped or cause back injuries.

Storing chemicals

These are some basic guidelines that you need to know when storing chemical substances.

BASIC RULES FOR STORAGE OF CHEMICALS

!	Store at or below room temperature.
!	Store in a dry atmosphere.
!	Do not store in direct sunlight
!	Keep items, such as aerosols away from naked flames or heat sources.
!	Make sure that all stored chemicals are out of the reach of children.
!	Do not use food or drink containers to store chemicals
!	Ensure that children cannot access the areas where chemicals are stored.
