A female tends to contain more breast tissue than the male. Each breast lies over the pectoral muscle (pectoralis major) of the chest and is attached to them by irregular connective tissue.

Generally the female breast extends from just below the collarbone or clavicle, to the armpit or axilla and across to the breastbone or sternum.
